My coaching philosophy

My coaching starts with a question: what problem are you trying to solve?

Building muscle, getting stronger and changing how you look are all valid reasons to train. I also consider what happens to your movement as you work towards those goals. Strength and mobility inform the same training decisions, from the exercises we choose to how we increase the load.

I begin by assessing your current movement strategy: how your body organises itself to perform a task. This includes looking at relative motion, which is how different parts of your body move in relation to one another. I assess which movements are available and how you adapt when a movement is restricted.

Where relative motion is limited, my first priority is to help you regain it. Where it is already available, we work on developing strength, speed and power while preserving those movement options.

This requires more than choosing exercises for a push, pull or legs session. Those categories can organise a training week, but they do not tell us which positions suit you or how your movement changes under heavier loads. I consider your starting position, how your feet contact the ground and how you transfer weight and push off. These details influence how an exercise is selected, coached and progressed.

As training becomes more demanding, I continue to assess both your progress towards your goal and how you are moving. That attention to movement remains part of the programme throughout.
