Patrick Thomas May

Hybrid Athlete

"A few months after learning to swim properly I finished an Ironman 70.3. That told me everything I needed to know about what is possible when you commit fully."

Patrick Thomas May

A background built on competition.

Patrick grew up competing in rowing, developing the engine, discipline and pain tolerance that would define his athletic identity for years to come. He transitioned into amateur boxing, drawn to the technical demands and the mental edge required to compete in a one-on-one environment. Both sports gave him something most gym athletes never develop: the ability to train with genuine intent, not just effort.

From boxing he moved into CrossFit, which broadened his physical vocabulary across strength, gymnastics and conditioning. CrossFit naturally led him toward HYROX, where that combination of engine and strength became a distinct competitive advantage.

HYROX and the pursuit of the Pro division.

Patrick competes in the HYROX Men's Singles Pro division, the most demanding category in the sport, where athletes complete the full 8km run and 8 functional stations with no equipment modifications. His current personal best stands at 1:06, a result that places him firmly among competitive Pro athletes.

The transition from CrossFit to dedicated HYROX training required a recalibration of priorities: less variance, more specificity. Running economy, pacing strategy and station execution became as important as raw fitness.

Notable achievements.

HYROX Pro Mens Singles

Personal best of 1:06 in the Pro division, the highest competitive category in HYROX.

Mallorca Ironman 70.3, 2025

Finished in 5:38 including a 38-minute swim, completed just months after learning to swim properly.

Amateur Boxing

Competed at amateur level following years of competitive rowing, developing elite mental toughness.

Competitive Rowing

Foundation sport from a young age, building the aerobic engine and competitive mindset that underpins everything since.

T100 London 2026, the next target.

Patrick's current focus is the T100 London triathlon, one of the highest-profile middle-distance events on the global circuit. His goal is a sub 5-hour finish, a target that requires serious swim refinement, sustained power on the bike, and enough left in the tank to run off a two-hour ride.

The Mallorca 70.3 proved he can complete the distance. T100 London is about competing at it. Given that he posted a 38-minute swim at Mallorca just months after learning to swim properly, the trajectory is steep in the right direction.

Working with DVOTION.

Patrick came to DVOTION with a broad athletic base and a clear next target. The work has focused on translating that multi-sport background into a structured, data-led programme, one that addresses the demands of long-course triathlon without losing the power and anaerobic capacity that makes him dangerous in HYROX.

Assessment data has shaped his training zones, identified where his run economy is leaking watts, and built a periodisation model around the T100 London race date. The goal is simple: sub 5 hours, fully prepared.
